Baladna Signs MOU with GORD in Cop27
Baladna joined forces with the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) to explore synergies aimed at enhancing Qatar’s food security through sustainable innovation. The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 9 at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt to develop and apply GORD’s novel cooling technology for climatizing barns at Baladna.READ MORE
Baladna participates in the one million tree initiative
Baladna has planted 5,000 native trees across its farm which covers an area of 2.6 million sqm. These trees bring food and shelter to wildlife and increase biodiversity. Planting woodland also increases the number of insects, birds, and mammals, and the diversity of flora. Beneficial insects are attracted to crops; these insects along with birds will eat pests, reducing the need for chemical pesticides. In addition to absorbing C02, they also reduce odor pollution and contribute to a more aesthetic environment.Baladna donates compost for school vegetable gardens to teach children about where our food comes from. Compost generated from our operations is sold to local farmers and nurseries but also donated to local schools that use it on their gardens and allotments. Baladna also hosts schools at the farm to teach them about where Qatar’s milk comes from.READ MORE
Baladna pledges to plant 5,000 trees
Doha: Demonstrating its commitment to the nation and its environment, Baladna, Qatar’s largest locally owned food and dairy producer, marked its celebration of Qatar National Day by pledging to plant 5,000 trees, in line with the 2021 “Sustainability” theme and in support of the government’s efforts to reduce air pollutants and carbon dioxide emissions.Baladna’s pledge was made during an official announcement at a private ceremony that took place at Baladna headquarters in Al Khor, in the presence of Khaled Ahmed Al-Sindi, Head of Projects Department, Ministry of Municipality, Abdullah Ibrahim Al Mohannadi, Head of the Parks Department, Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, Khaled Al Nuaimi – Director of Al Khor Park, and Mr. Piet Hilarides, Baladna Chief Executive Officer.The company’s commitment to plant 5,000 trees comes in further support of the nationwide campaign launched by The Ministry of Municipality to plant 1 million trees, with the aim to preserve the environment, being one of the key pillars for the Qatar national vision 2030 and reinforce green growth across the nation.READ MORE
