At 8pm Doha time, John Dor heads to Hamad International Airport to receive a flight from Los Angeles airport, carrying visitors who are not family or friends, or even not human, but are in fact a cattle herd of 120 cows. Qatar’s ability to withstand the boycott is a test of whether the Gulf state’s economy is viable and resisting the obstacles it faces from the blockade of Saudi Arabia and its allies Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain, which include not only the physical blockade, but also the withdrawal of its Saudi and Emirati neighbors for their financial investments.
