An Ambitious Project for Self-Sufficiency of dairy in Qatar
17 June, 2017
On a limited plot north of Doha, 50 kilometers along the lively North Road, dense trees are erected and a high fence rises. But when the visitor enters the interior, he finds a huge and ambitious national project, each of which acts as if they were a beehive – despite the heat of the weather – to compensate for the shortage in milk and dairy products, after the loss of the Qatari market more than 50% of its supplies of these materials due to the blockade imposed by Three Gulf countries over the State of Qatar. This project is the “Baladna Farm” for the production of livestock, which was established in 2014 to lead the national efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in the field of livestock production and dairy industry, which during this short period was able to extend the local market 40% of its needs.
